Gaza’s Renewal Initiative

Last update 18 July 2025

Israel has Gaza under near-total siege. People are facing the destruction of vital services including water and sanitation. All of Gaza is at risk of famine.

What's happening in Gaza?

Since October 2023, Gaza has endured one of the deadliest chapters in its history. More than 50,700 lives have been lost, and 115,000 people wounded. Thousands remain trapped under collapsed buildings, and over 400 humanitarian workers and 320 children have been killed.

This humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding under relentless bombardment, the weaponization of basic necessities, repeated forced displacement, and systematic dehumanization—while the world watches.

More than two million people are struggling to survive without access to food, clean water, medicine, or shelter. The destruction of infrastructure and the blockade on aid have made a full-scale humanitarian response nearly impossible.

We urgently need your help to deliver aid as soon as access is allowed. Every donation helps us reach families in desperate need:

What is Oxfam doing in Gaza?

Oxfam and our partners are working tirelessly to provide life-saving support those facing starvation, displacement, and the collapse of essential services. Since October 2023, your donations have helped us reach over 1.2 million people with essential aid.

Our Emergency Response Is Focused on Four Core Pillars

  • Trucking clean water and repairing damaged water and wastewater pipelines.
  • Distributing first aid kits, hygiene kits, protection kits and cleaning supplies.
  • Providing blankets, mattresses and sleeping mats for displaced families

2. Emergency Cash Assistance

  • Emergency multipurpose cash via E-wallets for essentials
  • Cash-for-protection top-ups for survivors of violence

3. Food & Economic Security

  • Emergency food assistance and food parcels
  • Supporting home gardens and small-scale food production

4. Protection & Gender-based Support

  • Psychosocial support, legal aid and protection against gender-based violence.
  • Sexual Reproductive Health services, including gynecological care and baby-care counseling
  • Gender-sensitive training on self-care, early marriage prevention, family planning

We are prepared to scale up our response as soon as access is granted.
In the meantime, we continue to advocate for:

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The resumption of UN-led coordination mechanisms for humanitarian relief
  • The lifting of the Israeli blockade on humanitarian and commercial supplies
