Oxfam Trailwalker Statement

Oxfam Hong Kong received an appeal earlier involving a claim that Team Columbia S1 (team no. S03) had taken a shortcut during Oxfam Trailwalker. We have carried out an investigation after receiving the appeal. We did not find any evidence proving that Team Columbia S1 had taken a shortcut or done anything that violated the Rules and Regulations of the event. The Organising Committee, after careful consideration, has decided to uphold the final decision that Team Columbia S1 finished first in Oxfam Trailwalker 2013.

Oxfam Hong Kong reiterated that all Trailwalker teams must observe the Rules and Regulations of the event. All team members must complete the designated route and register together at each check point. Taking short cuts is not allowed. Any team that is found to have violated any rule or regulation will be disqualified. The requirement of conforming to the designated route is for both preserving fair play and ensuring the safety of all walkers.

Unlike other sports events that focus on making records, Oxfam Trailwalker is primarily a fundraising event for Oxfam’s anti-poverty work. With the generous support of many volunteers and supporting organisations, we are able to line up sufficient manpower and resources at all check points and along the route to ensure the safety of all walkers and provide adequate back-up, as well as safeguard fair play.
