Afghanistan Flood Update

Latest Situation

More than 27 provinces in Afghanistan have been hit by flash floods due to heavy rains in April and May 2014. New flash floods occurred in early June in Baghlan Province, killing 74 people and destroying 825 houses. The floods have caused widespread damage in multiple communities. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported on 8 June that about 140,000 people had been affected. Recent assessments indicate that the provinces of Jawzjan, Faryab, Sar-e-Pol, Samangan, Baghlan and Balkh are the most affected.

Samangan is one of the worst affected provinces in northern Afghanistan. AHEAD, an Oxfam partner has ongoing programmes in the area and is responding to the needs of affected communities with support from Oxfam.
