15 Years of Standing Together: Oxfam Rice Event Calls on the Macau Community to “Empower Smallholder Farmers Change Lives with an Oxfam Rice Packet.”

【20 Apr 2026 – Macau】Oxfam’s annual flagship fundraising campaign, the Oxfam Rice Event 2026, will take place on 16-17 May (Saturday & Sunday) across multiple locations in Macau. This year marks the 15th anniversary of this campaign in the city. Under the continued theme “Empower Smallholder Farmers. Change Lives with an Oxfam Rice Packet.” The event aims to raise funds through the sale of Oxfam Rice and a range of gift items to support smallholder farmers and vulnerable communities worldwide who are severely affected by climate change, helping them improve their livelihoods and strengthen their ability to cope with future crises.

To introduce details of this year’s campaign, Oxfam held a press conference today (20 April) at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre. The event was attended by Oxfam Ambassador Mr. Terence Siufay, Mr. Henry Tang, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong, together with representatives from sponsoring and supporting organisations. The guests jointly called on the public to pay closer attention to the challenges faced by smallholder farmers under climate change, and to support practical initiatives that enhance farmers’ productivity, improve access to markets, and strengthen their resilience to natural disasters.

In recent years, climate change–driven extreme weather events have become increasingly frequent, posing serious threats to global food systems and disproportionately affecting low‑income communities, thereby exacerbating poverty and inequality. Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Henry Tang, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong, said: “Oxfam is committed to strengthening the capacity of smallholder farmers to address the climate crisis. We implement various poverty alleviation and development projects across Chinese Mainland, other developing countries in Asia, and East Africa. By supporting smallholder farmers in adopting sustainable farming and disaster prevention techniques, we enhance community resilience, ensuring they can maintain stable livelihoods and achieve self-reliance, even in the face of extreme weather.”

Oxfam Ambassador Mr. Terence Siufay, a long‑time supporter of Oxfam’s work, also showed his support at the event. He shared: “Every pack of Oxfam Rice represents hope for many smallholder farmers. I am very pleased to support the Oxfam Rice Event once again and to encourage everyone in Macau to join the ‘Empower Smallholder Farmers. Change Lives with an Oxfam Rice Packet.’ campaign by turning care into action and bringing positive change to the world.”

The campaign is made possible with the generous support of corporate and community partners, including OpenRice (Co‑creation Partner), Bank of China (Principal  Sponsor), EVA Air (Major Sponsor), DCH Foods (Oxfam Rice Sponsor), BCM Bank (Long‑term Partner), CTM (Long‑term Telecom Partner), MOME Media & Marketing (Official Mobile Media Partner), as well as various media partners and supporting units. Oxfam extends its sincere gratitude to all partners and volunteers for their continued commitment and selfless support.
